| | Firefly Cast Turn up to Cancelled Convention « Thread Started on Dec 11, 2006, 11:08am » | |
After the last minute cancellation of Booster Events' Big Damn Flanvention, Browncoats and their heroes rallyed round to salvage the event 500 people paid thousands of dollars for.
Thursday evening saw Adam Baldwin turn up and hang out with the hundred or so attendees who had already arrived there before the cancellation was announced.
Friday saw a huge shindig in the hotel bar attended by the 200 - 300 people who had come out regardless of the cancellation. Mark Sheppard (Badger) spent the day signing autographs and posing for pictures. The evening saw Nathan Fillion arrive with a box of goodies from his closet which he proceeded to give out to those who had travelled the furthest to be there, accompanied by Alan Tudyk, Jonathan Woodward and Christina Hendricks (accompanied by a first date!) all of whom partied into the night with the Browncoats. Brett Matthews from the Serenity Comics also turned up with Dark Horse and copies of the Serenity comic which he signed.
Saturday: Multiverse, the company resposible for the Firefly MMORPG due for release in 2008, paid for busses for the short trip to the secret location where there were dealers selling merchandise and Q & A Sessions with Firefly composer Greg Edmondson, Multiverse and others. The evening saw a trip to Clare Kramer's new club which she rushed to complete and open two weeks early so that Browncoats could party. Once again the cast turned out in force, with Nathan Fillion, Ron Glass, Morena Baccarin, Michael Fairman, Mark Sheppard, Jonathan Woodward, Tan Feldman, Christina Hendriks, Clare Kramer, James Leary, Camden Toy, Greg Edmondson and even Michael Muheny (Sheriff Lamb from Veronica Mars) turned up and drunk the bar dry.
Sunday saw another trip to the secret offsite loaction where Tim Minear turned up to show a video he made from clips of all his TV shows and did a live commentary to Firefly episode Ariel.
This whole event was put on by a small group of Browncoats who had themselves paid to be at the event, in a very short space of time, helped by the generous donations reaching $4,500, from sympathetic fellow Browncoats around the world, and the extreme generosity of the actors and crew (some of whom were not even booked for the convention and none of whom had been paid) who gave their own time to make sure that the attendees had a great time despite the convention being cancelled, and many volunteers to help it all run smoothly.
Booster Events, who have remained silent all weekend, have now resurrected their website and left the following message on their forum:
"Booster Entertainment would like to apologize to everyone for the great inconvenience that was imposed on all this past weekend. We understand everyone has questions, which we will try and answer in a timely fashion. The website has been put back up per customer request. We again apologize for our poor notice in the cancellation of the Flanvention. Booster Entertainment will not answer personal emails nor PMs, but will answer everyone in the open forums. Please do not post foul language or threats as those posts will be deleted. Please also allow for the heavy site traffic in waiting for responses. Sincerely, Booster Entertainment"
Anyone who held a ticket to this or any other of Booster's Events should make their feelings known, politely at http://www.boosterevents.com/Community/F....ic/Default.aspx
